Microsoft unveiled new Cloud Platform System (CPS)

cloud

By unveiling  Cloud Platform System (CPS),  Microsoft differentiates itself  against its rivals Amazon Web Services and Google.
This Azure cloud-in-a-box offering uses the same software that powers Microsoft’s Azure public cloud - the HyperV hypervisor, Windows Systems Center and Azure Pack - and runs on hardware supplied by Dell.
Many customers are not ready to migrate all of their operations to the public cloud, Microsoft Azure CTO Mark Russinovich said. They may have legacy infrastructure or they may have sensitive information they want to keep on their own premises. “They can’t just shut it down and move all to the public cloud,” he says. CPS allows users to continue to operate their on-premises cloud with the same management tools as the Azure public cloud.
Microsoft brings its experience running some of the largest datacentres and cloud services into a factory-integrated and fully validated converged system. CPS combines Microsoft’s proven software stack of Window Server 2012 R2, System Center 2012 R2, and Windows Azure Pack, with Dell’s cloud server, storage and networking hardware. As a scalable building block for your cloud, CPS shortens the time to value and enables a consistent cloud experience.
Here is how Philip Moss, Chief Executive Officer evaluates CPS:
“Thanks to the Microsoft Cloud Platform System, we were able to build a next-generation IaaS solution in three days instead of nine months. That’s an unheard-of time-to-market advantage." “Our existing Microsoft-based cloud was humming along and quite profitable, but every time there was a new generation of software or hardware products, we needed to repeat the validation, testing, and integration work, and it took up to nine months to get a new cloud offering to market.”
“There are other integrated private cloud appliances on the market, but we feel that Microsoft is the absolute specialist in software-defined innovation and hybrid cloud environments.”
“CPS gives us access to government, defense, banking, and many other industries that require validated IaaS solutions. Government agencies issue many more contracts than the private sector, worth much more money so it’s a very lucrative market.”
An another company Capgemini, wants to help enterprise customers transform their businesses in weeks, not months or years. With CPS, they found a secure way to help those companies take advantage of a managed and compliant cloud computing environment.
Here is how the executive Management talks about CPS:
“With the Microsoft Cloud Platform System, we have the ability to put the right workload in the right location at the right time for customers.”
Lance Friend, Senior Vice President of Dynamic Services.
“CPS fills an important role in the cloud computing spectrum in that it enables us to deliver hybrid cloud solutions in combination with public cloud and traditional hosting services.” Capgemini Account Executive, Infrastructure Services.
“We can deploy a working private cloud in a couple of weeks rather than six or more months. This kind of speedup is essential for customers that want rapid transformation in today’s fast-paced IT era.” Keith Kelly, Enterprise and Cloud Architect.

According to Seattle Times newspaper "Amazon’s new Denny Triangle campus is to get its heat from a data center across the street."

"The project, believed to be the first of its kind in the country, will send water coursing back and forth through pipes under Sixth Avenue and could pave the way for a large swath of Seattle to recycle energy."

"The system will use heat generated by computers and servers inside the Westin Building, a 34-floor office tower at Virginia Street and Sixth Avenue."

"The building, owned by Clise, houses a vast data center and a high-tech Internet exchange point where communication networks connect with each other."

Richard Stevenson, president of Clise said  “We’ll have the world’s largest Internet retailer heating its office space with waste heat created by the Internet.”

Amazon spokesman Ty Rogers concluded that the shared system will be “nearly four times more efficient than a traditional heating system.”
